The National:

TORY MSP Donald Cameron told the Scottish Parliament that he "regularly" listens to The National's Holyrood Weekly podcast.

When Cameron, MSP for Highlands and Islands region, rose during the debate on the latest Building a New Scotland whitepaper - this time on a written constitution - the last thing the Jouker expected was to hear was The National's podcast being named amidst the debate.

After a short exchange with Minister for Independence Jamie Hepburn, Cameron raised the pledge made by Hepburn during his appearance on Holyrood Weekly, where he said he would tell Parliament the topic of the latest paper, after our journalists tried to get him to reveal it.

"Let me turn to the paper and in so doing, I do note the sincere pledge given by the Minister for Independence to the Nationals Holyrood Weekly podcast," Cameron said on Tuesday.

"Something that I listened to with great interest most weeks.

"On May 12, he said that given Government is accountable and responsible to Parliament, and that's a responsibility I take seriously, it's incumbent on me to recognise we should say to Parliament what the next subject matter, subject material for the forthcoming prospectus papers will be."

Cameron pointed out that Hepburn had not announced the topic to parliament, but was launched at a press conference in Glasgow.

After the exchange, Cameron told our podcast host on social media that he was a "regular" listener and asked to come on.

Well, we don't expect our reporters will let the opportunity to grill a Tory politician on the constitution go amiss...
