I NEARLY choked on my New Year’s Day steak pie when my grandson showed me a video posted online by Angela Constance, our Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs, apparently enjoying the delights of a “fabulous” holiday in Turkey.
I begrudge no-one a holiday but would have thought that given the current controversy enveloping her, a break away from social media in a small cottage in the Highlands with no internet coverage would have been a better choice.

Perhaps she could have used the long Holyrood holiday break to reflect on her position and hope that the political spotlight might move away from her to some other Scottish politician.
There is more than a hint of irony in Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs holidaying in Turkey – a country led by President Erdogan, whose political opponents have a nasty and regular habit of ending up behind bars.
I would have thought that at least one of the small army of advisors currently employed by the Scottish Government might have pointed out this fact to Ms Constance.
