IT bears repeating that Speaker Linday Hoyle did not allow the widest range of options last Wednesday evening, because he chose to only accept Labour’s amendment and not the LibDem amendment (Labour MP denies Keir Starmer ‘intimidated’ Speaker before Gaza ceasefire vote chaos, thenational.scot, Feb 25).

Allowing a vote on the Labour amendment before the SNP’s original motion ensured that the choice was not widened but narrowed, by ensuring that the SNP motion was never voted on.

The failure of Labour to recognise this just makes them look more guilty. It makes it look more like this was precisely what most people think it was – a stitch-up by a Speaker to sort a problem for his former party’s leader.

Its not even like we can get a straight story as to what happened.
