KATE Forbes in Wednesday’s paper complains that many of Scotland ‘s politicians are not doing enough to stop the erosion of devolution.

She shouldn’t be surprised. Many look on the devolved parliament as a step up from council-level politics, but still see Westminster as the main goal. In part this is because there’s less scrutiny and more scope down there. It’s the “nae neebors” outlook.

The pairing system also means that they can take on outside interests without objections.

Recently there have been comments that many have become too comfortable down there and maybe a limit on how long they should be there should be in place. This has some merit, as well as a limit on outside interests, until we no longer need them there.
