LAST week I was at a Zoom meeting about proportional representation. The English contingent didn’t even know that in Scotland we have PR for Holyrood elections. I cannot emphasise enough how important it is that we remember the depth of English ignorance about Scottish affairs. They really have no knowledge of the problems that Scotland faces when it comes to Westminster interference.

It’s quite possible that many English don’t know about the Gender Recognition Reform Bill, or the decision about a second referendum made by the Supreme Court. They will certainly have no inkling of the disdain for Holyrood shown by the likes of Alister Jack and Douglas Ross. It is very likely that some don’t even know independence is on the cards.

Mind, we should have sympathy with the poor souls – pretty much their only choice is to vote Tory or Labour.

PR is one of Holyrood’s greatest strengths, and, God and Keir Starmer willing, with luck and a following wind, it might even take root in Westminster one day.
