I READ with disquiet your report on my local MSP, John Mason, and his views on the so-called conversion therapy.

All of life (now 70) I have voted in every first-pass-the-post election for the SNP. I am not a party member; indeed, I am unhappy about being described as a nationalist. Simply put, I wish to live in a nation whose values are more progressive and humanitarian that those of the wreckage of the British Empire.

Mr Mason’s views on a woman’s rights over her body are not mine. His views on the tragedy in Palestine seem more appropriate for the Book of Revelations than the 21st century. And now this.

I cannot in all conscience vote for him in the next Holyrood election. I will not. I cannot vote for anyone who seeks to continue our deference to Westminster. I do not know what to do.
