I READ that Jacob-Rees Mogg is proposing that the UK Parliament should sit in Scotland and Wales to promote the Union. Mr Mogg is well known for being a wind-up merchant and perhaps this is another example.
But think awhile of the threat to Wales’s and Scotland’s political devolution from the UK Government. The Welsh Senedd and the Scottish Parliament have already been trashed by the UK Prime Minister as disastrous.

The UK parliament is to all intents and purposes an English Parliament. It can be nothing else considering the facts. England has 85% of the population of the UK and consequently 85% of the voting power. Scots and Welsh MPs are indulged at best, mocked at will and generally ignored.
Just imagine 360 English MPs travelling to Edinburgh to sit in triumph at Holyrood and boast the benefits of the Union. That would be a takeover that even King Edward the Scots-slayer never achieved some 700 years ago.
Scotland should really wake up and realise that their whole identity is at risk with this UK Government.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
