JULIA Pannell (Letters, May 3) has once again displayed her inordinate talent for criticising the SNP’s strategy for achieving independence. However, in a large number of tediously repetitive criticisms and rants, she had not a single shred of coherent alternative policy to offer.

Meanwhile, the much maligned SNP strategy of demonstrating competence in government (the day job) during a pandemic crisis has led to the most recent opinion poll showing the SNP gaining an outright majority in the next Holyrood election and increased support in the next General Election.

From this, it’s not hard to see which approach is working and which is doomed to failure. It’s also easy to see why the siren voices of the strategically clueless should be ignored.
