ANDREW Learmonth is asking if Raab can fire nukes (No 10 says Johnson is still Prime Minister..., April 8).

The whole world is facing an extremely serious medical crisis. The Covid-19 virus does not respect borders or bank balances, it can and is attacking people from all classes in society. However we also know that it is the poorest who will bear the brunt of its advance.

Yet our government supported by our journalists continue to try to invoke a military analogy as if we are fighting a war.

It could not be more evident that nuclear and conventional weapons are useless in our defence of the virus. In addition the cost of the economy bailout is mounting everyday.

So the question Andrew Learmonth should be asking is if Raab can cancel Trident renewal and start decommissioning this deadly and costly pile of junk.
