A NEW Scottish independence poll has given Yes a two-point lead.

The survey from Redfield and Wilton Strategies put support for independence at 44% compared with 42% support for the Union, with don't knows included.

It's the first time the pollsters have found a lead for independence since November 2022, directly after the Supreme Court ruled Scotland could not hold a referendum without Westminster approval

It also found that 38% approve of the Scottish Government’s performance on Scottish independence, compared to 33% who disapprove.

In Scotland, the UK Government has a net competency rating of -47, compared to -7 for the Scottish Government.

The pollsters' Westminster voting intention poll also found Labour leading the SNP by one point, on the same day as a YouGov survey recorded a lead for Labour for the first time since the 2014 referendum

Altogether the results (with changes from the previous poll on March 10-11 in parentheses) are as follows:

  • Labour 33% (-1)
  • Scottish National Party 32% (-2)
  • Conservative 17% (+1)
  • Liberal Democrat 8% (+2)
  • Reform UK 5% (+1)
  • Green 2% (-2)
  • Alba Party 2% (+1)
  • Other 0% (–)

  • Conservatives 21% (+3)
  • Lib Dem 6% (+1)
