THE National has launched a fundraiser today in support of Gaza, raising money for aid workers saving lives every day.
Medical Aid for Palestinians is one of the only organisations able to provide aid on the ground in northern Gaza right now. The scale of the humanitarian emergency is unprecedented, and they need your help and donations urgently to do more.

More than 30,000 Palestinians are dead. The entire 2.2 million population in Gaza are facing crisis or worse levels of food insecurity. Over 300,000 have acute respiratory infections and 200,000 have cases of acute watery diarrhoea. Gaza’s 12 hospitals are semi-functioning at best, and children are being operated on without anaesthetic.
Your donations can literally save lives.
Below is a list of what your generous donation could go towards:
- £25 for around 25 antibiotic injections used to treat respiratory tract infections and intra-abdominal infections.
- £500 could buy 500 vials of intravenous paracetamol used for pain relief.
- £1000 could buy 3000 oxygen connecting tubes, delivering oxygen from an oxygen tank to a patient’s respiratory tube through a nasal cannula or face mask, ensuring patients receive a continuous and controlled supply of oxygen.
- £2500 could buy an ECG monitor, which records the electrical activity of the heart and providing crucial information about heart rate, rhythm, and potential abnormalities to help diagnose and monitor cardiac conditions.
Please consider supporting our emergency appeal and sharing the project with your friends and family.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
