LIZ Truss remained silent and walked in silence as she was confronted over whether or not she believed far-right figure Tommy Robinson is a “hero”.

It comes as the Tories come under increasing pressure to remove the whip from the former prime minister after her appearance at a conference hosted by Steve Bannon – Donald Trump’s former chief strategist in the White House.

Truss, whose disastrous 2022 mini-budget unleashed economic chaos, remained silent in an interview with Bannon in which he hailed Robinson as a “hero”.

The former Tory leader also claimed the UK was run by a left-wing “deep state” that had caused the collapse of her premiership.

In a video shared by BBC Politics, a journalist can be heard asking if she believes Robinson is a “hero” and if describing journalists as the “deep state” is “responsible”.

Truss refuses to answer any of the questions as she was also grilled on whether or not Lee Anderson should be allowed back into the Conservative Party.

The former Tory party vice chair sparked an Islamophobia row, and the now independent MP has refused to apologise for comments he made about London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

He lost the Tory whip after claiming “Islamists” had “got control” of both Khan and London.

The video showed Truss continue to refuse to answer the journalist’s questions before getting into a car.

Among those to share the clip was SNP MP John Nicolson, who commented: “The fixed, vacant, vacuous grin…”

We previously told how Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie (above) was among those to call for the Tories to expel Truss for “gurning along” with Bannon.

Labour have also called for her to lose the Conservative whip for “spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories about a ‘deep state’ that is to blame for the downfall of her premiership”.
