THE BBC has apologised for a mistake one of its presenters made when discussing Margaret Ferrier.

On May 23, Good Morning Scotland presenter Lucy Whyte referred to Ferrier as an SNP MP despite her sitting as an independent at the time.

We previously told how many listeners were quick to call out the “unbelievable” error.

However, on June 12, the BBC issued an apology which read: “During this edition of the programme (May 23 2023) the impression was given that Margaret Ferrier MP is an SNP Member of Parliament.

“In fact, having had the whip withdrawn in 2020, she now sits as an independent MP.

“We apologise for the mistake.”

At the beginning of the month, MPs voted to suspend the former SNP MP from Parliament for 30 days for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

MPs voted by 185 to 40 in favour of the suspension which has paved the way for a likely by-election in Rutherglen and Hamilton West.

The seat has swung back and forth since the General Election in 2015, when Tom Greatrex was defeated by Ferrier.

She then lost her seat in 2017 to Gerard Killen but won it back at the 2019 General Election.

She defeated Killen by 23,775 votes to 18,545.
