A PETITION calling for Prince Andrew to be stripped of his Scottish title has reached more than 6000 signatures.

The Change.org petition says the royal's Earl of Inverness title should be removed following sexual assault allegations, which he denies.

Kevin Mac, who started the petition, said the name was a "stain" on the Scottish city.

The website reads: "Andrew Windsor is a disgrace to keep the title Earl of Inverness Scotland.

"He should be stripped of this title as it is a stain on this beautiful city.

"He has lost his military titles so should not be allowed to keep this one."

The petition was launched eight months ago during the Duke of York's civil sexual assault case but has received a fresh wave of signatures in recent days.

Virginia Giuffre sued Andrew for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was 17 after she was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew denies the claims.

The case ended after the Duke settled for a reported £12 million.

That prompted anger from Inverness politicians, who said his Scottish title should be "relegated to the dustbin of history".

On Wednesday, fury erupted after it was announced that the Prince would continue on in a role which could see him take over for King Charles.

The Duke is a Counsellor of State, meaning he can step in for the Sovereign if he is unwell or out of the country.

This is despite Andrew no longer being a working royal and having his military titles stripped from him.

He appeared in civilian clothing during his mother's procession earlier this week as only working royals can wear the military uniform.

Anti-monarchy group Our Republic told The National it was wrong that Prince Andrew still retains his Scottish title despite his friendship with late billionaire paedophile Epstein.
