THE Scottish Conservative and Labour leaders will battle it out in a one-off special football match being held during COP26.
Anas Sarwar and Douglas Ross will battle it out on the pitch as part of the Soccer Six Game of History, being held at Hamilton Academical’s Fountain of Youth stadium on November 7.
The event aims to “raise vital awareness and debate” around eco-anxiety experienced by many young people, and will raise funds for children’s charity Blameless.

As well as Sarwar and Ross, the teams will be made up of climate scientists and celebrities. Professor Mark Maslin, the author of How To Save Our Planet, will be on the pitch, as will TikTok star Nathan Evans, lottery winner Jane Park, musician Horse McDonald, comedian Gary Faulds and Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Gary Hollywood, among many more. DJ George Bowie will provide the match songs.
Meanwhile legendary footballers Frank McAvennie, Derek Ferguson, John Hartson, Ian Durrant and Charlie Miller will also be taking part.
Scottish Tory leader Ross, who is also a professional referee, said he was “delighted” to be taking part.
“Although I’m nursing a long-term injury that’s kept me off the pitch for months, I‘ll still be quick to keep legends like Frank McAvennie in check,” the Moray MP added. “I think a few of the old boys will be looking for an early bath and I’m happy to help out if I can.
“And if Anas Sarwar tries dishing out any political patter, he’ll be straight in the book.”

Meanwhile Sarwar said he was looking forward to the match. “At COP26, we have the chance to tackle climate change,” he commented.
“And central to that will be ensuring that young people feel that we have a bright, sustainable future to look forward to.
“And I am also looking forward to showing off my skills on the pitch and I am confident my team will win – despite the dodgy referee.”
The match will kick off at 6pm, with tickets starting at £6.
