MORE than 2000 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Scotland.
One further death, among someone who tested positive in the previous 28 days, was also registered in the past 24 hours. It brings the total under that measure to 8535, though registration offices tend to be closed at weekends.
Public Health Scotland data shows 2069 cases were reported, with a positivity rate of 9.5%.
Some 1023 people were in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19, an increase of 19.
Of those, 76 were in intensive care, up by two.
A total of 4,181,617 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination and 3,829,881 have received their second.
Health Secretary Humza Yousaf said cases are still on a "downward trajectory" but warned they remain "too high".
Continuing to see a downward trajectory in positive cases/100k & test positivity, but case numbers are still too high.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
