ANOTHER 18 people have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19, the latest daily figures reveal.

The deaths, among people who tested positive in the previous 28 days, bring the total under that measure to 8534.

A further 2556 cases were also recorded in the past 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 8.9%.

Some 1004 people were in hospital with recently confirmed Covid, a drop of one from the previous day.

Of those, 78 were in intensive care, also down by one.

A total of 4,176,832 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,827,110 have received their second dose.

Booster doses are now being given to people aged over 50, starting with the most vulnerable, with the vaccination programme also having recently been extended to children aged between 12 and 15.
