SCOTLAND has recorded a further 2048 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours, according to the latest Scottish Government data.

The newly reported cases show a continued decline in the number of daily cases recorded in Scotland with a decrease on yesterday's figure of 2190. There were 3216 cases recorded on July 9.

Daily cases peaked at 4234 on July 1 following a sharp rise over the previous month.

The latest data shows that there were no new deaths of people who have previously tested positive for the virus. This means that the death toll under the daily measure - of people who died within 28 days of first testing positive - remains at 7757.

Across Scotland's hospitals yesterday there were 444 patients being treated with recently confirmed Covid-19, a rise of nine from the day before. Of those patients, 40 were in intensive care, a fall of two.

In terms of Scotland's vaccine effort, 3,928,409 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 2,877,326 have received their second dose.

Public Health Scotland (PHS) data shows that the national seven day average for positive cases is 367.9 per 100,000 people, a decrease from the day before.

The area with the highest positivity rate is shown by PHS to be Midlothian where the rate is 709.5 per 100,000. Dundee City is next with 702.5 per 100,000 followed by East Lothian with 513.6 per 100,000.
