SCOTLAND has recorded a further 2190 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours, according to the latest data.

The Scottish Government figures show that the new cases reported today account for 9.0% of the 27,162 tests for the virus that reported results. 

The latest figures also show a drop in daily cases of more than 1000 from yesterday when there were 3216 total cases reported.

Sadly there have also been seven further deaths of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 recorded in the latest figures. This brings the total number under this measure - of people who died within 28 days of first testing positive - to 7757.

Yesterday there were 435 people in hospitals across Scotland with recently confirmed Covid-19, a rise of eight from the day before. Of the patients in hospital yesterday, 42 were in intensive care, an increase of three from the previous day.

In terms of Scotland's vaccine effort, 3,920,145 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 2,861,110 have received their second jag.

Public Health Scotland data shows that the national seven day average for positive tests is 381.6 per 100,000 as Scotland is in the midst of a third wave of cases.

The worst affected area is Dundee City that has a seven-day average case rate of 747.4 per 100,000 population.
