ANOTHER Tory councillor in Angus is behind an anonymous anti-SNP troll account, it has emerged.

Councillor Braden Davy, a candidate in the Angus North constituency in May’s Scottish Parliament election, confessed that he runs the Angus Against the SNP Facebook profile following an investigation by the Press and Journal.

It comes after sister paper The Courier revealed that councillor Derek Wann was behind a pro-Union troll account which had shared a post describing Nicola Sturgeon as “Bute House Golem”. The National also unveiled evidence connecting the Arbroath East and Lunan councillor's phone number to the account.

The Angus Against the SNP page was used ahead of the May 6 vote, advising followers to “vote with your constituency ballot for Braden Davy to stop the SNP”. However, the page did not explain that Davy was running the account.

Posts on the Facebook profile include condemnation of SNP ministers Graeme Dey and Mairi Gougeon, who are both representatives of the Angus area.

Another now-deleted post saw council colleagues described as “so-called independent councillors”, with a photoshopped image showing them wearing SNP badges.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Tories said Davy has “referred himself to the party and the page’s content is being looked at”.

Davy told the Press and Journal: “I was involved in creating a cross-party platform to scrutinise the SNP in Angus. I’ve referred all relevant details to the party.”

Last week local residents in Angus launched a petition in an effort to get Wann, whose troll profile was named after the Bridgerton character Lady Whistledown, to step down.
