I’M really privileged to chair Scottish Sports Futures (SSF), who in the mind of many are a leading light in the sport for change agenda which has now been re-named to Changing Lives Through Sport and Physical Activity.
One of the things that is really pleasing being involved in this area is the willingness of people within the sector to support organisations working in the same field. There are no egos and there is no competition, it is all about helping others, working together and changing lives. It really is refreshing.

A few weeks ago I met with the CEO of Achieve More Scotland, Robert McHarg. Robert told me all about his organisation who in a normal week work with around 1500 young people, both female and male, in over 30 different communities in Glasgow. They use dance and football as the main “hook” to engage young people across the north-east and west of the city.
These programmes are designed and have been highly successful in supporting significant reductions in crime and anti-social behaviour. Going into their 10th anniversary the organisation is going from strength to strength.
Robert introduced me to the head of development Carla Fyfe, who has offered Scottish Women in Sport support as we enter into the difficult area of accessing grant-funding. Having an expert eye look over your work is invaluable.
Back at SSF, many of the staff team are preparing for the Kiltwalk which will take place on April 28 in Glasgow, with the choice of walking six, 15 or 22 miles. Places still available if you wish to register and support SSF. There are Kiltwalks in four cities this year, so no matter where you are based, you can sign up and support your favourite charity by walking in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee or Aberdeen.
This huge event is supported by the Sir Tom Hunter Foundation and offers organisations an opportunity increase the sponsorship monies they raise by 40%. Great news and amazing dedication from the SSF staff and I will applaud them all, from the side-lines of course!
