DUE to ice melt at the planet’s poles bringing a flow of water towards the equator, the Earth’s critical axis wobble which affects our seasons has increased by a metre in the past decade. Not much, the “deniers” will say, but a dangerously fast shift on the geological time scale.
“’Drill first, ask later’ policy is UK climate vandalism” headlines Mark Ruskell’s article in Friday’s National. Spot on. Pledging “net zero” emissions by 2050 is a con to keep the share market happy.

It will prove too late. Ocean temperatures are at highs never before recorded in history and the sea largely sets our global weather patterns and food supply. The Rosebank field may not prove so rosy.
Should not the actions of Westminster politicians backing any oil industry expansion be seen as criminal in terms of its increasingly catastrophic impact on human and wildlife survival? Do these financial giants affecting our future believe they are immune from its impact? Stop wasting money on Mars mania, monarchy nonsense and the House of Lords. The climate issue is fast becoming beyond the control of these idiots destroying the planet for pomp and financial gain. Who is powerful, or intelligent enough, to bring them too account? Not the Westminster Labour party. For the younger generation I can only hope Scottish independence brings more wisdom and doesn’t come too late.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
