THE appointment of a man as the first period dignity officer in Tayside, of which which Dundee City council is a part, is utterly ludicrous and verging on insanity.

I understand he is also to advise women on coping with the menopause. What experience or qualification does this young man, who was a tobacco salesman, bring to this sensitive issue involving middle-aged women? Which fools thought he had anything useful to contribute?

It is a constant source of bewilderment to me that those responsible for making such appointments are so often lacking in basic common sense. But having read the advertisement for the job which describes girls as “young people who menstruate”, it says it all. Who else menstruates among young people? Perhaps the group can tell us.

Meanwhile I see the Daily Mail is already blaming the SNP for the fiasco.
