IT appears that the introduction of the Scottish Covid passport in the hospitality sector has been a resounding success.

Only 550 people out of what must surely have been tens of thousands of customers have been refused entry to hospitality venues since Thursday over the whole of Scotland. There must have been a number of the 550 who tried to gain entry to more than one venue before giving up and going home.

Of course door staff will feel some pressure in the early days, but do hospitality venues normally admit people who create a “charged atmosphere” for any reason at the door?

The introduction had some problems but now appears to be working exactly as intended.

The hundreds of thousands of customers who have already obtained passports can feel just a little more relaxed visiting hospitality venues, knowing that fellow customers have also taken steps to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

The Scottish Government should be congratulated on doing as much as possible to reduce the risk of infection, even if the opposition parties and the Scottish Hospitality Group feels that this is unnecessary.
