Four-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist and Great Britain Davis Cup player Bobby Wilson has died at the age of 84, his family announced on Wednesday.
A British junior champion at 15, he won the junior Wimbledon title a year later when he was also knocked out of the senior event in the second round by eventual runner-up Jaroslav Drobny.
He reached his first quarter-final at the All England Club in 1958 and lost to world number one Ashley Cooper in five sets, and went out at the same stage to Roy Emerson a year later.
Wilson was beaten by Rod Laver in the last eight at the US Nationals two years later and in 1963 made the quarter-finals at the French, US and Wimbledon championships, where he later played against John McEnroe in the first round of the mixed doubles in 1977 as a 41-year-old.
He also competed in 61 Davis Cup rubbers over 12 years and had a 16-12 singles record and 25-8 in doubles.
