Former Rangers player Abdallah Sima was instrumental in a dramatic Champions League victory for Lens against Slavia Prague.

The Senegalese forward, who netted 16 goals for Rangers during a loan spell in 2023/24, scored as the French team came from behind to secure a 3-2 win in their league phase opener.

Sima's goal came against a former club, having spent a season with Slavia Prague before joining Brighton in 2021.

Now at Lens, Sima has started the season brightly after an underwhelming previous campaign. He played a crucial role in Thursday night's thrilling encounter in the Czech capital.

Lens seemed poised to dominate when Slavia's Mikulas Konecny was sent off for dragging down Sima, who was charging towards goal. However, the 10-man team shocked the visitors by taking the lead through Danijel Sturm.

In the 73rd minute, Sima brought Lens level, scoring from close range and celebrating with former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard. Sturm appeared to secure a famous victory for Slavia with a second goal in the 89th minute.

But Lens staged an astonishing late comeback. Florian Thauvin equalised in added time, before Ruben Aguilar fired home a powerful winner, sealing a stunning 3-2 triumph.

Sima's goal was pivotal in one of the most dramatic comebacks of the opening round of Champions League fixtures.
