Rangers’ return for pre-season has been pushed back following the appointment of new boss Derek McInnes.

Players had initially been instructed by former manager Danny Rohl to report to Auchenhowie on Monday to begin preparations for the upcoming campaign.

However, the Rangers Review understands that those plans have now changed, with the squad set to return on Thursday instead, when they will meet McInnes for the first time.

The 54-year-old is currently in the United States, where he has been on a family holiday. He was also among the travelling Tartan Army in Boston for Scotland’s World Cup win over Haiti and is expected to attend the clash with Morocco at Gillette Stadium.

McInnes is due back in Glasgow within the next 72 hours and has already been in detailed talks with Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh as plans begin to take shape for the summer overhaul.

Upon his return, the former Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Hearts boss will step up his assessment of the inherited squad while identifying key transfer targets ahead of the new season.
