Scotland to play World Cup warm-up match in Liverpool

The match will take place on March 31, three days after a clash against Japan at Hampden, and is the latest friendly to be announced as preparations for this summer’s tournament continue.

Ahead of their opening game against Haiti at the World Cup, Scotland will host Curacao at Hampden on May 30 while an additional overseas fixture is set to be finalised.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke said: “We’re pleased to confirm Cote d’Ivoire as our second opponents for the March international window, following on from Japan’s visit to Glasgow.

“We wanted to face African opposition before we play Morocco in the summer, and I’m sure Cote d’Ivoire will give us a really stern test.

“It will also be good to play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool. The supporters will enjoy the opportunity to visit the new stadium.”

Earlier this month, First Minister John Swinney proposed that the day after Scotland’s first match in the 2026 World Cup should be a national holiday north of the Border.

Bank holidays can be appointed in Scotland by royal proclamation, with the first minister advising the Privy Council.

What days are Scotland playing in the World Cup?

Scotland will play against Haiti on June 14 at 2am UK time, before playing Morocco five days later at 11pm.

The team will face Brazil on June 24, also at 11pm.
