Celtic starlet Daniel Kelly is attracting serious transfer interest from a European giant, according to a report.

Newly crowned German champions Bayer Leverkusen are believed to be interested in the 18-year-old.

Football Scotland states that Xabi Alonso's side club is keen to sign the midfielder.

Despite this, it's claimed that Celtic remain locked in contract talks with the talented youngster over a new deal at Parkhead.

Should he sign a new deal, then it would leave Brendan Rodgers' side in a much stronger position to receive a decent transfer fee for the player.

As things stand, the report claims that training compensation of just under £500,000 is all that's needed to sign Kelly.

He scored his first senior goal against Dundee earlier this year and has also made appearances in the senior squad against Hearts, Livingston and St Johnstone.

Celtic will take on Rangers in the Scottish Cup final 2024 this weekend.

After that game is completed, it's expected a resolution on new contracts for players at the club will be ramped up, while the players leaving will also be confirmed.

Meanwhile, it would be stretching things somewhat to suggest that Scotland will be a goal down before a ball is kicked in their opening Euro 2024 match against hosts Germany in the Allianz Arena in Munich next month due to the players who have been ruled out by injuries.

The loss of both Aaron Hickey of Brentford and Nathan Patterson of Everton, however, is certainly a devastating blow to the national team’s prospects of making it out of Group A and reaching the knockout rounds of a major tournament for the first time ever.

Hickey and Patterson have excelled at right wing-back in recent seasons and the former was superb for his country in the specialist position against Spain, Cyprus, Norway and Georgia during qualifying.
