Scott McTominay has been named the Scottish Football Writers Association Men's International Player of the Year.
The Manchester United midfielder was in inspired form for Scotland over the past 12 months, as his goal-scoring exploits played a crucial role in helping the nation qualify for Euro 2024. He scored seven goals during the qualifying campaign.
The 27-year-old will be one of the first names on Steve Clarke's team sheet when he names his line up to face Germany in the opening game of the European championships in June.
And his performances for both club and country, with nine goals and three assists so far this campaign for United, saw the vote overwhelming land in his favour.
Angus Gunn, John McGinn and Callum McGregor were also shortlisted for the award.
Chick Young, President of the SFWA, said: “It was beginning to look like John McGinn had a vice-like grip on the award… so it says so much about the performance level of Scott this season.
“He won by a street proving that football writers do know their business.
“Brilliantly done, Scott. We doff our caps to you. Now the hat-tricks in Germany are on you.”
McTominay will be presented with his prize at the 2024 SFWA Player of the Year dinner on Sunday, 19 May at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Glasgow.
It comes as the midfielder looks set to be offered a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.
It would be quite the turnaround for the Scotland international who was this time last year deemed surplus to requirements.

McTominay was open to leaving Old Trafford last summer, with West Ham showing interest in the midfielder and Harry Maguire.
He was far from a first pick under Erik ten Hag earlier this season, but after a series of impressive performances off the bench, scoring several vital goals for United.
The Scotland player has nine goals and three assists in his 34 appearances so far this season. Only Rasmus Hojlund has more goals than him this term.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
