Charlie Mulgrew may have retired last year.

However, the ex-Celtic defender is set to pull the boots on once more after signing for a new club.

The former Scotland international officially announced his retirement from the game in September 2023, aged 37.

He won five league titles with Celtic among other cups before a move to Blackburn Rovers and Dundee United. He previously played for Wolves and Aberdeen in his career.

Now, he will add English minnows Doncaster City to his CV too.

The club were only formed two years ago. They announced on social media: "Welcome to Doncaster City FC Charlie Mulgrew. The former Celtic and Scotland international will be with us for a short period to gain valuable fitness."

Fellow Scot Ross McCormack also joined on a short-term deal.

He made his name in Scotland from his spells at Rangers and Motherwell before going on to have a good career south of the border, earning some big money fees at Fulham, Aston Villa and Leeds.

Ex-Norwich star Wes Hoolihan, 41,  has also joined the club on their signing spree.

Doncaster City play in the Abacus Lighting Central Midlands Alliance League, the 11th tier in the English pyramid.

Meanwhile, Celtic have branded Rangers' decision to ban their supporters from attending tomorrow's women's derby match as 'hugely disappointing'.

This morning it emerged that Rangers had cancelled all tickets belonging to Celtic fans for Sunday's SWPL derby encounter at Ibrox.

The Ibrox club states this call was made over security concerns regarding high-risk fans infiltrating the game while no segregation between fan bases would be in place.

Celtic have now confirmed the decision from their end, insisting Rangers had numerous options to ensure that Hoops supporters could attend the game safely.
