Barry Ferguson has been delighted with Rangers' January transfer window so far, but the Ibrox legend believes a new deal for John Lundstram must be a top priority.

Gers have already added Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande this month and they look set to be closing in on Jefte and Oscar Cortes too.

But Ferguson believes his former club should be looking closer to home in their business for the remainder of the month with Lundstram out of contract in the summer.

The Englishman has been a key performer since manager Philippe Clement took over and Ferguson believes he can be a big player for the club moving forward into the future too.

Speaking on GO Radio Football show, he said: "I think John Lundstram is the number one priority.

"Since the new manager came in, I think he has been outstanding.

"I'm sure there are a few clubs in England who would take him in a heartbeat and that’s one Rangers need to get over the line quickly."

Updating on the contract situation between Rangers and Lundstram, Clement recently explained: "It’s a financial thing between John and the club. Both parties have shown an interest to do it, that is clear. But we will see in the next couple of weeks and months.

“He’s in a situation where he can sign somewhere else. But it’s clear that he feels good at Rangers and with our way of working.

"Everyone tells me that he’s showing a better level than he had at the beginning of the season.

“So I want him to continue like that and then there will be a solution between the two parties.

"Have I told him I want him to stay? I talk with my players every day so it’s clear what my mind is about that.”
