Former Rangers midfielder Nicky Law has taken his first steps into management.

The ex-Gers player has been appointed head coach at Tampa Bay Rowdies.

The 35-year-old has been given the job on a deal that runs until the end of 2023 at the USL Championship side.

Law, who played for both Rangers and Motherwell during his time in Scotland, played a huge role in the former's climb up the Scottish lower leagues.

He made 86 appearances for the Ibrox side and scored 20 goals in that time between 2013 and 2016.

His first game in the new job takes place on Saturday at the Al Lang Stadium versus FC Tulsa.

He fills the position of Scottish coach and renowned Kilmarnock fan Neill Collins, with Kenny Dalglish's son Paul also a recent head coach.

The Englishman only left the Rowdies in the 2022 offseason to assume a dual player and assistant coach role for Huntsville City FC in MLS Next Pro.

However, he now takes the plunge into full-time coaching at the club.

He said: “I know firsthand the standard that has been set at this club, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to build upon that for the remainder of the season.

“I’m grateful for the chance I’ve been given here by our ownership.

"My primary goal is to provide guidance and direction to this extremely talented group of players.

"We have all the tools to get where we want to become the end of the year.

“I absolutely loved my time here as a player and am so delighted to return in this new role.

"The connection I made with the fans, staff, and players when I was here made it a really difficult decision for me and my family to leave at the end of last season.

"I left the organization to pursue coaching, and I couldn’t be happier that my path as a coach has brought me back to the Rowdies.”

Meanwhile, Rangers have confirmed the signing of Danilo Pereira Da Silva on a five-year deal from Feyenoord, subject to international clearance.

The striker becomes Michael Beale’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window as he joins the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Starting his career in Brazil, Danilo made the move to Holland and has featured for Ajax, FC Twente and Feyenoord.
