Stephen Robinson is hopeful Dylan Reid will remain as St Mirren player despite the lure of the Premier League.

The Buddies youth graduate, 17, has been linked with a possible move to Crystal Palace.

Reid was a Celtic target in the summer but knocked back an approach from the Scottish champions after a bid was accepted.

St Mirren had negotiated a £125,000 fee but Reid turned down a possible switch to Parkhead.

Now, however, it's thought an exit for Reid could come with a move to Palace a possibility.

A reported six-figure fee could be on the table once again for Reid with Selhurst Park the destination.

But Saints boss Robinson refused to delve into speculation over Reid's future as he revealed his hope that the teenager will once again remain in Paisley.

“I think it is unfair for me to speculate about a 17-year-old kid," he told PA Sport. "There is enough pressure on young boys.

“He is still a kid. Dylan is a St Mirren player as it stands right now and hopefully that will remain.

“You look at the English Premier League teams and they are probably spending more money on 16 and 17-year-olds than they are on boys at 22 and 23 that are established.

“They are paying a lot of money for potential.

“It is credit to Allan McManus (St Mirren academy director) and our academy staff that we are getting that interest in our players and in Scottish football as a whole, that it is generating interest from clubs with resources way beyond ours.”

Reid burst into the St Mirren first-team just days after his 16th birthday as he featured against Rangers in 2021.

Since then he has remained a member of the first-team set-up at Ralston - but has found his minutes limited.

He was not part of the squad for St Mirren's recent 4-0 defeat to Celtic on Wednesday night.
