AN Arbroath local is serving up epic performances in this year’s Wimbledon tennis championship.

On Sunday, Jonny O’Mara of Arbroath managed to get through to the quarter finals after beating previous champions Jamie Murray and Venus Williams in the mixed doubles alongside his partner Alicia Barnett.

The match was a rollercoaster as Murray and Williams had five match points before O’Mara and Barnett won on their own fifth match point.

The final scores were 3-6 6-4 7-6 (16) in a match that took two hours and 12 minutes.

After the match he tweeted: “Some absolute madness out on court 2 What a match! Thanks @LisseyBarnett for carrying me to that win! #SillySeason”

Speaking on Good Morning Scotland on Monday, O’Mara said: “We just kept on playing, kept on enjoying, kept on swinging and fortunately we managed to win that last point. But, I mean, it felt like it was never going to end so I’m glad we finally managed to get the win.”
