CELTIC will travel to Poland to pay tribute to ex-player Artur Boruc in a match against Legia Warsaw.
The Hoops confirmed this afternoon that they had been invited to take part in such a special game to honour the heroic goalie.
The ‘keeper beloved by the club and its fans made 153 appearances before leaving over 10 years ago, and he has been remembered in high regard ever since.
The game was announced with the following statement: “Celtic are to take part in a special match in Poland to honour former Hoops goalkeeper Artur Boruc.
The club has been invited by Legia Warsaw to take part in the special Tribute match on July 20, 2022 and we will travel to Poland to play in a match which will also act as an important part of our pre-season arrangements.
Artur was with Celtic for five years, wining three League titles, one Scottish Cup and two League cups. He was also part of the Celtic team that reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League in consecutive years.
The keeper has given Legia Warsaw eight years of his career in two spells there and also played between the sticks with Fiorentina, Southampton and Bournemouth.
The former Celt is also still the most capped Polish goalkeeper with a record 65 international caps.
Celtic captain, Callum McGregor said: “Artur is a huge character and was a massive part of Celtic for a number of years performing brilliantly for the club domestically and in Europe and he will always be so highly regarded by everyone here.
“We are looking forward to playing our part in this tribute to Artur, something he richly deserves after such a long and successful career covering Legia Warsaw, Celtic and a number of other clubs.”
