MORE often than not, Ryan Kent is the provider in this Rangers team.

However, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side qualified for the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night, the ex-Liverpool winger admits he’s glad he was selfish in front of goal versus Red Star Belgrade.

Rangers progressed through to the last-eight with a 4-2 aggregate win over the Serbs.

The Ibrox side lost 2-1 on the night in Belgrade last night.

However, Kent bagged a crucial goal in helping to secure safe passage to the next knockout round of the competition not long after half-time.

A brilliant solo run after a lay-off from Glen Kamara saw the attacker produce neat footwork, before his deflected shot sailed into the net.

Attack partner Morelos would’ve been through one-on-one with the keeper has Kent picked him out.

But Kent was never going to pass once he got that close to goal.

He said: “We kept it nice and compact at the back. We knew we’d catch them on the counter attack at times and we managed to do that.

“We got a lucky break and I got a bit of luck in the end for my goal. I wasn’t tempted to pass that one to Alfredo.

“I think you create your own luck in football.

“Like I said, he boys stuck together. We defended as a team and we attacked as a team.  And we came away with what we wanted.”

Asked if Rangers were now a forced to be reckoned with, the belief from the Ibrox star shone through.

He added: “I think so. I mentioned the other day that each year we want to progress more than we did the previous year.

“That’s the goal this year. We’ve managed to do that.

“We’re into the quarterfinals now and we’ve got to have some sort of belief as we’d made it here so far.”
