CRAIG SAMSON has joined Aberdeen - and has been registered as a player four years after retirement.
The veteran goalkeeper, 37, stopped playing in 2018 as he ventured into coaching.
But Aberdeen have today confirmed they are facing an emergency between the sticks with some serious injury issues.
And Samson has answered the Dons' SOS call, by joining on a short-term basis as both a back-up keeper and coach.
Aberdeen's goalie coach Gordon Marshall needs surgery, as so faces a spell out of action.
Meanwhile, first choice Joe Lewis is currently unavailable, with back-up Gary Woods currently taking the gloves for Stephen Glass' side.
Young keeper Tom Ritchie has featured on the bench, but he has sustained a serious injury, meaning they had no other option - which had lead to Samson's signing.
As Gordon Marshall recovers from a knee injury, we can confirm that Craig Samson has this week joined the club to support goalkeeper training.

Following a serious injury sustained by Tom Ritchie, Craig has also been registered as a back-up goalkeeper and is in today’s squad.
An Aberdeen statement reads: "As Gordon Marshall recovers from a knee injury, we can confirm that Craig Samson has this week joined the club to support goalkeeper training.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
