SCOTTISH star Martin Compston hailed Scotland's victory over Israel as the “best ever” as he joined fans in celebrating the national team’s success at Hampden Park.

Scotland won 3-2 in the crucial Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier after Scott McTominay scored the late winning goal.

Compston tweeted a video of him at Hampden Park singing the Yes Sir, I Can Boogie along with thousands of ecstatic Scotland fans.

He then turns the camera to himself, shouting “come on, Scotland”.

The Line of Duty actor, who was born in Greenock, shared the video with his 537,000 Twitter followers as he lauded the atmosphere at Scotland's national football stadium.

He said: “Been to a few Scotland games in my time, in terms of pure entertainment and exhilaration that was the best ever. We’ll be coming.”

Fans online were quick to agree with the Vigil star, as one wrote: “They'll be a small earthquake of joy in Scotland tonight!”

While another said: “Love this, what an atmosphere."

And a third added: “This is honestly the best thing I've seen!"

Steve Clark’s side now lead Israel by four points in Group F, meaning if Scotland beat the Faroe Islands and Moldova in upcoming games they will secure second place and a play-off spot.

The match was Hampden’s first full house since England’s visit in June 2017.
