SCOTTISH football clubs have been left in limbo as Scottish Government vaccine passport plans have not yet been confirmed.
The Joint Response Group provided an update on discussions over how checks would be carried out when the scheme comes into force from October 1.
And the statement revealed Scottish Government representatives said they were unable to provide details on how the vaccine passports checks would work.
The JRG "reiterated concern" at the lack of details and confirmed spot checks would be the preferred option instead of mandatory checks for all fans at stadia with more than 10,000 fans.
Yesterday, SFA chief Ian Maxwell said complete checks would be "counterproductive" and only cause further social interaction outside of football grounds.
And despite the continued discussions with the government, there has still been little clarity on the implementation plans.
The JRG statement read: "Members of the Joint Response Group have attended numerous Scottish Government-led COVID-19 domestic vaccine certification meetings, two of which took place this afternoon, to update relevant industry sectors on the implementation plans for the imminent vaccine certification roll-out.
"The JRG reiterated its view that a system of spot-checks is the only pragmatic and workable solution to the numerous practical challenges surrounding implementation of the Scottish Government’s plans within Scottish football.
"The JRG sought clarity on the operational detail which clubs, football bodies and stadium operators will be expected to implement from 1st October.
"At both meetings, the Scottish Government representatives acknowledged they were not yet in a position to provide the detail necessary for clubs to begin their implementation planning.
"With just over two weeks until the system is scheduled to commence in football stadia across the country, we reiterated our concern at the lack of detail available and reinforced the requirement that this information be confirmed as soon as possible."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
