There could be medals won by Scots in the pool over the next 24 hours, with Duncan Scott an integral member of the men’s 4x200m freestyle team that will swim in the final at 4:20am tomorrow morning (UK time).
However, before that, Ross Murdoch will begin his campaign in the 200m breaststroke from 11:35am today, with the semi-finals at 3:20am tomorrow if he progresses from the heats.
The most decorated female swimmer in history, Katie Ledecky of the USA, could add another two golds to her tally when she goes in the final of the 200m freestyle and the 1500m freestyle from 2:40am.
The eyes of the world are likely to be on the women’s gymnastics final, with the USA team, led by superstar, Simone Biles, favourites to take gold from 11:45am today despite qualifying in second place.
The GB women’s football side, which includes Scots Kim Little and Caroline Weir, will aim to continue their winning form when they take on Canada at midday while the GB women’s hockey team take on India at 2am tomorrow.
The women’s cycling individual time trial begins at 3:30am, with Scottish youngster, Anna Shackley, the only Brit on the start line while the men’s race, which begins at 6am, will see Brits Geraint Thomas and Tao Geoghegan Hart both in action and hoping to fare better than they did in the road race on Saturday, in which they both crashed.
In rowing, there are a number of medals on the line.
GB’s men’s double sculls, quadruple sculls and women’s and men’s four go in their respective finals, from 1:30am.
From 4:20am on the rowing lake, Scot Polly Swann and her partner, Helen Glover, will go in the rescheduled semi-finals of the women’s pair and will be aiming to put in a more convincing performance than they did in the heats.
In equestrian, three-time Olympic champion, Charlotte Dujardin will spearhead the GB team who are in the hunt for a medal in the team final, which begins at 9:30am this morning.
In sailing, London 2012 silver medallist, Luke Patience, begins his campaign in the 470 class from around 2:30am and in canoe slalom, Scotland's world champion, Bradley Forbes-Cryans, will expect to progress from the K1 heats, which begin at 3:50am.
