SCOTLAND midfielder Billy Gilmour has been ruled out of Tuesday night's must-win clash at Euro 2020 after testing positive for Covid-19.

The 20-year-old playmaker was handed his full debut by Steve Clarke at Wembley as the Scots ground out a goalless draw and was named man of the match.

Scotland know that nothing less than a win over Croatia will do if they are to reach the knockout stages of a tournament for the first time, and that task has now been made more arduous with Gilmour's absence.

The Chelsea player is now self-isolating for 10 days – meaning that should Scotland qualify for the last 16, he would still be unavailable.

No close contacts have been identified, according to reports. Gilmour is not said to be showing any symptoms and is feeling fine.

A statement from the Scottish FA read: "The Scottish FA can confirm that a member of the Scotland National Team playing squad, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Having liaised with Public Health England since the positive test was recorded, Billy will now self-isolate for 10 days and therefore miss tomorrow’s UEFA EURO 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden."

The rest of Scotland's squad is expected to train as normal today.
