Ally McCoist reckons Scott Brown has the ability to keep playing at Celtic for another season amid speculation on a move to Aberdeen.
However, the Rangers legend does believe that if Brown did swap Parkhead for Pittodrie at the end of this season it might be the right time for him to go.
With Aberdeen appointing Stephen Glass as their new manager on Tuesday, Brown has been heavily linked with a move to the Dons to join the management set up there - whilst still potentially getting minutes on the park, too.
The new boss at Pittodrie has called for an on-field leader to join his side, and whilst he also promised the Aberdeen faithful a team they will all want to watch, Brown might be the ideal candidate to become a leader in the Granite City.
Speaking to talkSPORT, McCoist said: "It's an interesting one because I thought he played really well at the weekend.
"Clearly, on that form, you could probably say he could have another year at Celtic.
"I remember a couple of years ago there was talk of him going to Australia, nonsense like that, he had for too much to offer
"I still think he still has a good bit to offer. I haven't spoken to Scott but I think he maybe now fancies playing but at the same time moving into a coaching capacity.
"I know he is friendly with Stephen Glass, they were team-mates (at Hibs).
"I think it is a natural progression in his football career, the timing of it, only he could answer if it's right, it certainly wasn't right going to Australia two years ago.
"On current form he could probably play another year for Celtic but there is going to be vast, vast changes in the personnel and maybe Scott feels the timing of the potential move to Aberdeen will be perfect for him."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
