Allan McGregor 7
Kept his side in the game with a couple of big stops at 0-0.
Leon Balogun 6
Filled in admirably in James Tavernier’s absence. Didn’t offer as much as the Rangers captain going forward but solid in defence.
Connor Goldson 7
Remarkable consistency this season. Good distribution from the centre-back.
Filip Helander 6
Assured display at the back. Struggled with Appere’s pace once or twice.
Borna Barisic 6
Caused problems with his deliveries from the left. Missed a penalty.
Steven Davis 6
Typically composed afternoon from the midfielder. Calm on the ball and took up clever positions off it.
Ryan Jack 4
Did well enough but afternoon was cut short after picking up a knock midway through the first half.
Joe Aribo 9
A joy to watch when he’s in this kind of form. Wriggled past and danced through the United defence repeatedly, and generally made a nuisance of himself. Superb strike for his goal.
Ryan Kent 6
Was fortunate that his rather tame shot took a wicked deflection off Ryan Edwards. Terrific driving run towards the end.
Ianis Hagi 6
Knew very little about his goal but showed good instincts to be in the right place at the right time.
Alfredo Morelos 7
Glaring miss at the end of the first half. Got his goal in the end.
Substitutes
Glen Kamara (for Jack, 27’) 6
Metronomic in the middle as usual.
Scott Arfield (for Hagi, 63’) 5
Got half an hour as he steps up his recovery. Looked lively.
Scott Wright (for Davis, 63’) 5
Showed glimpses of real promise.
Jermain Defoe (for Morelos, 67’) 4
Quiet showing after coming off the bench.
Jack Simpson (for Helander, 67’) 5
Came on to shore up defence.
In the coming weeks, only subscribers will be able to comment on The National articles. Subscribe now or log in to make sure you stay a part of the conversation.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions. What should we do with our second vote in 2021? What happens if Westminster says no to indyref2?
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversation, register under fake names, and post vile abuse. We’ve had hundreds of emails from you complaining about this, asking us to take steps to ensure that these people aren’t given a platform on our site.
We’re listening to you, and here’s how we plan to make that happen.
We have decided to make the ability to comment only available to our 10,000 paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them.
We’ll be monitoring this change over the first few weeks, and we’re keen to know your thoughts. Email us at letters@thenational.scot if you want to have your say.
