St Johnstone have taken former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Gilmour on trial.

The 21-year-old youngster was released by Norwich last October and he has now joined Callum Davidson's team in a bid to win a contract.

Midfielder Gilmour's trial period ended yesterday and he is now anxiously waiting to hear if Saints will offer him a deal at McDiarmid Park.

The youngster was highly rated during his time at the Emirates, but he failed to breakthrough and become a mainstay in the first team.

Gilmour has represented Scotland at all levels up to under-19s and a deal could be struck ahead of Saints' trip to Hampden this weekend.

Callum Davidson revealed that he could add to his squad ahead of Saturday's Betfred Cup semi-final. The former Scotland international was tight lipped on any names of targets but he did hint that two deals could be completed.

He continued: “We’re still working on it. We’ll see if we can get something done by the weekend, if not by the start of next week. Hopefully we’ll get someone in. I think it’s important for the remainder of the season.”

Asked if they could be included in Saturday’s squad, Davidson added: “It depends which one I get. There are two or three options. Hopefully we can get a couple in. If one is fit and ready to go, he’ll be put straight in.”
