FORMER Celtic manager John Barnes believes that James Tavernier could play for the majority of Premier League clubs.
Tavernier has been in excellent form this season, having scored 17 times so far from right-back, which has prompted conversation about the Englishman's future.
And Barnes believes that the Rangers captain could cut it in the Premiership.

“He [James Tavernier] came from a lower division team to go to Rangers when they weren’t the Rangers that they are now. He showed the potential that he had, so Rangers did well in terms of getting him up there for him to show his quality. All he needed was an opportunity, and he didn’t get that in England, so he went to Scotland. He's now showing what he can do.

"I'm not saying that if he comes to England, he's going to be the top scorer. But I'm sure that, given an opportunity, he could play for most Premier League teams. I don't know if he could be at Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal or one of the top teams, but definitely in the Premier League.”
John Barnes was speaking to BonusCodeBets.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
