KENNY MILLER has expressed his delight at seeing Scotland finally end their exile from international finals after reaching the European Championships.
The former Rangers striker had a distinguished career for his country but missed out on the chance to represent Scotland on the biggest stage during his playing days.
Miller is now working Down Under at Western Sydney Wanderers and was a keen observer as David Marshall's penalty heroics clinched a dramatic play-off victory over Serbia earlier this month.
"I am absolutely delighted," Miller told the Four Lads Had A Dream Podcast.
"I was in work watching the penalty shoot-out and I thought it was going to be another one of these near misses and hard luck stories with conceding the goal in the last minute.
"But fantastic character from the boys to pick themselves back up. We were so comfortable in the game.
"To be honest, I never fancied us based on it being an away game in Serbia and them being a really good team but we were really comfortable throughout the game and probably deserved to win it over the course of 90 minutes.
"Definitely deserved to go through, delighted for everybody involved and my big mate Marshy saved the penalty. He is someone that deserves it, that works so hard and has a long, distinguished career.
"He has had to wide and fight and bide his time to get that number one jersey but he has been rewarded for it.
"Everyone deserves the opportunity to go to the Euros next summer. A fantastic achievement for everyone involved.
"I am delighted for Steve Clarke, the players and the Tartan Army. They have followed the team and suffered so much over the last 22 years and when everyone has been going away to the summer tournaments they have not had the opportunity.
"They are the best fans about in the national game and I am sure they are looking forward to next summer."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
