STEVEN GERRARD has called for other Scottish clubs to play their part in boosting the co-efficient as Rangers continue to raise the profile of our game in Europe.
The Scottish FA confirmed this week that UEFA had granted the SPFL a fifth European berth for next term.
Scotland will now have two teams in the qualifying rounds for the Champions League, two in the Europa League qualifiers and one in the early stages of the new Conference League.
Rangers have had a significant impact on the co-efficient over the last three seasons and are well on course to reach the Europa League knockout rounds once again.
The Gers beat Lech Poznan on Thursday night and Gerrard said: "We are all very proud here at Rangers, the job we've done from a European point of view since we've came in.
"But we need to continue and push and keep improving, ourselves and everyone else who is representing the country from a European point of view.
"It is fantastic for the country that there is extra places but at the same time all the teams have to continue to keep trying as well to try to maintain those positions because as quickly as they come or hard as we battle for them to come, they can be taken away as well."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
