ST MIRREN face having two 3-0 defeats awarded against them in the Premiership if they are found to have breached strict Covid-19 safety protocols before the postponement of their matches against Motherwell and Hamilton.
The SPFL today announced that disciplinary proceedings had been launched against St Mirren as a result of their home league games on October 17 and 24 having to be called off.
The fixtures were postponed after a number of Jim Goodwin's players tested positive for coronavirus and other members of his squad were forced to self-isolate.
The Paisley club are currently level on points with Hamilton, who have played a game less than them, at the bottom of the Premiership table.
A St Mirren statement read: “Following the SPFL decision to proceed with disciplinary proceedings against St Mirren, St Mirren can confirm they will defend this robustly.”
The St Mirren hearing will be held before a sub-committee of the SPFL board and will be chaired by an independent legally-qualified chair on Tuesday, November 10. It is expected that it could run in to Wednesday, November 11.
The SPFL instigated disciplinary proceedings against Kilmarnock following the cancellation of their Rugby Park match against Motherwell on October 2.
Their hearing will be held on Tuesday, November 10 and now may also extend into Wednesday, November 11.
