Celtic have confirmed the signing of West Ham's Albian Ajeti on a four-year deal.

The Swiss striker joins up at Parkhead on a deal worth around £5million.

The Hoops had initially wanted Ajeti on a loan but opted, instead, to splash the cash on the frontman. It comes as the attacker had reportedly previously wanted to consider his options before agreeing to any move.

It is thought Ajeti was initially unsure about the Scottish Premiership. However, a discussion with manager Neil Lennon convinced the player to sign.

Ajeti counts Basel and St Gallen among his former clubs. And legend at the former, Beni Huggel - who was at the club while Ajeti was coming through the ranks - reckons Celtic should be delighted at sealing the deal for his compatriot.

“Albian is a skilful guy,” he said. “He has a lot of determination and a good mindset. He always wants to win, always wants to get the most he can out of a game. He is also good technically and can shoot with both feet. He isn’t the tallest striker, just six foot or so. But he is a good header of the ball.

“He plays with a lot of emotion. When he was at Basel the fans loved him because he always gave the impression of giving everything that he had for the team. He had a great attitude. I think the Celtic supporters will like him.
